Property development industry, ‘ignorant’ about health and safety measures

March 4, 2009

Health and Safety Executives (HSE) campaign aims at people who are working in the property development sector. HSE says that it intends to increase the awareness and responsibility among people working in the sector.

Last year, over 38 people had lost their lives in construction refurbishment, maintenance and repair as reported by the organisation.

It is the liability of property renovators, investors and developers to cut down on the number of destructions and accidents that happen in this sector.

Bob Blackman, from Unite Union, reported that the size of the property should not be a matter of concern. What should really matter is the health and safety of the employees that helps in the smooth and successful running of the organisation. It should not be treated as a cost that needs to be slashed down.

According to HSE, people who are at the moment working in the property development sector are oblivious and unaware of the legal obligations which fall under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

Companies who try to cut down on the costs of health and safety could find their corporation in trouble in the long run, stated Ted Kenrick, technical and risk solutions manager at Norwich Union Risk Services (NURS).

People who work in the property developments and are responsible for shouldering safety may find the NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Safety and Health very vital for expanding their knowledge.

New property in the UK is now ‘more reasonably priced’

March 2, 2009

According to the recent figures available, an increasing number of prospective property buyers in the United Kingdom are considering purchasing a new home because of the dip in property prices.

As suggested by the data, in the United Kingdom, the cost of new-build homes fell by 2.1% in the month of January. This takes the annual decline rate down to 13.1%, which is the largest ever-recorded annual price fall.

To counter the economic downturn and falling property prices, most developers are now marketing and offering new homes at prices that have been the most affordable ever seen for over three years in the United Kingdom.

Additionally, based on figures released last week by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, lending has almost fallen to an 8 year low.

However, the drop in property prices is not bad news for everyone. Northern Ireland’s social housing tenants who want to live in the few mixed areas have something to cheer for by the decline in property prices.

More than 90% of Northern Ireland’s public housing remains segregated after the Good Friday agreement, some 11 years back. The houses or estates are marked out as either Protestant or Catholic by murals and flags.
